Reed Timmer is an extremely reckless person, and every time he chases he is a danger to himself and the general public. Young nieve folks like weather fanatic Mark Spencer are a reason this show should have been cancelled in the first season. When I was training to become a firefighter the first thing they taught us is to not become part of the problem. Reed Timmer often has become close to being part of the problem when not saving lives nor property. All he is in it is for his video, selling his video. If his vehicle were to be thrown he would become another injury for first responders to deal with, or even a piece of flying debris that strikes a family. Reed Timmer does not storm chase for science, nor does he chase to warn people. He chases for money and attention. Even in his own promo video he proudly brags about how every news outlet known to man uses his videos – because he’s wreckless enough to drive into a tornado.
Storm Chasers and Reckless Driving
If you ask me driving into a tornado shows extreme disregard for safety of persons and property – in Michigan this is known as Reckless Driving. I’m sure other states have similar statutes.
Section 257.626 (2) Except as otherwise provided in this section, a person who operates a vehicle upon a highway or a frozen public lake, stream, or pond or other place open to the general public, including, but not limited to, an area designated for the parking of motor vehicles, in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 93 days or a fine of not more than $500.00, or both.
Reed Timmer may say he chases for science, or to warn the public. But the real reason is the adrenaline rush and to sell his videos. People like Mark Spencer blindly follow his leads because they want to be “Extreme” reckless tornado chasers just like Reed Timmer! All Reed Timmer is doing is educating people like Mark Spencer to be future dangers to the public.
