Storm Chaser’s Use of Lights and Siren Causes Stir

lightbarzStorm Chaser Johh Sibley uploaded a video of him running a red light yesterday using lights and siren during the Hattiesburg, MS tornado and it is beginning to cause quite a stir in the chaser community.

UPDATE: Hattiesburg, MS police have commented saying they are going to review films by both Storm Chaser John Sibley, and Scott Peake and issue traffic citations based on the videos.  The Georgia Department of Public Safety will be commenting by the end of the day on the Emergency Light Certification that Mr Sibley is using in his defense.

UPDATE 2 – The Georgia Department of Public Safety emailed a comment.  John Sibley’s Permit is for Amber Light Bars Only, and he may only operate the amber lights when operating as an escort vehicle. The permit is valid only in Georgia as well.  He is not permitted the use of, or the installation of a siren.  They will be investigating this matter as well.

YET ANOTHER UPDATE – John Sibley is now bragging to the local news media about his illegal lights and sirens….

The video posted below is of John Sibley sitting at an intersection, with a red light facing him and obvious cross traffic at the intersection.  John’s siren is wailing as he pulls up to the intersection.

John Sibley posted on facebook in his defense an emergency lighting certification from Georgia included on the right.  JOHN SIBLEY HAS DEMANDED WE TAKE DOWN THE IMAGE OF THE PERMIT WE HAVE TAKEN IT DOWN UNTIL OUR LAWYERS HANDLE IT.  The incident was in Hattiesburg, Mississippi - well outside of Georgia.

What do you think of storm chaser’s using sirens to go through red lights to get better video of tornadoes?
